Kendal Conservation Volunteers

Tuesday 2nd: Clearing up the “hazel coppice” area of DKW, removing cut material and weeding out unwanted vegetation and self-sown willow/ash/sycamore.

Tuesday 9th: Miscellaneous tasks around DKW. We are starting the Kew work soon, so need to get sorted.

Tuesday 16th: First trip out to start identifying target species for Kew. Likely to be Gait Barrows and Roudsea. Any questions to Nic.

Tuesday 23rd: Hunting for small-leafed lime and hazel trees in suitable sites.

Tuesday 30th: More seed hunting for Kew, and clearing brambles and other weeds in DKW.

Tuesday 5th: Online training session with Kew for the new tree seed collecting programme. Contact Nic with any queries.

Tuesday 12th: The third dry stone walling training session on Kendal Fell – postponed till September. Gardening and maintenance jobs instead.

Tuesday 19th: Gardening and repair jobs at DKW, in the shade.

Tuesday 26th: Second session of bracken bashing at Bird’s Park for CWT – cancelled because of heat. More weeding instead.

Tuesday 7th: Bracken bashing at Bird’s Park. Meet at the railway bridge at 9.30am (see email for details).

Tuesday 14th: Dry stone walling training on the golf course. Contact Chris for details.

Tuesday 21st: Repair of tree beds and paths, weeding and general gardening in DKW, and clearing up round the new Zig-Zag in Serpentine Wood.

Tuesday 28th: Finishing the wood store and miscellaneous gardening tasks.

Tuesday 3rd: First installment of our training course on dry stone walling up at Little Wood on the Golf Course.

Tuesday 10th: Cutting up and removing yet another fallen tree on the boundary wall of Dog Kennel Wood, plus mulching and re-establishing the path through the woodland area.

Tuesday 17th: Gardening and path repair in DKW, plus planting out baby trees and wildflowers, and clearing more wreckage from the wall.

Tuesday 24th: Walling preparation work in Little Wood, plus miscellaneous tasks in DKW, including installing a new water butt.

Tuesday 31st: Continue path repair in DKW, weeding and mulching round new trees and repairing the tree beds. Also finish building the new woodstore.

Tuesday 5th: Clearing brambles and perennial weeds round the entrance of Dog Kennel Wood and repairs to the raised beds.

Tuesday 12th: Clearing a fallen tree on the Tram road, and more repair work in DKW.

Tuesday 19th: Cutting up and removing fallen trees round the wall behind DKW, and gardening work.

Tuesday 26th: The long-postponed AGM! At 10am, everyone welcome. Followed by general tidying up and gardening.

KCV is meeting again on Tuesdays as the Covid regulations allow, being careful to maintain social distancing. Activities are caring for our baby trees, sowing and planting wild flowers, weeding, hard landscaping work round the site, and gardening/repair work in Serpentine Wood or Fellside.

Meet at Dog Kennel Wood at 9am.

Tuesday 1st: Still some work to do on the Alphabet Trail, weather permitting.

Tuesday 8th: More repair on the Alphabet Trail, and work around the pond area.

Tuesday 4th: General gardening jobs and constructing a path round the pond, now we have cleared the ground.

Tuesday 11th: Finishing off the pond path and weeding.

Tuesday 18th: General tree care work at Dog Kennel Woods.

Tuesday 25th: Tidying up the Alphabet Trail in Serpentine Woods.

We will observe social distancing rules and stay outside. Disinfectant and soap provided. Meet at DKW at 9.00 am for all activities.

Tuesday 7th: More gardening and weeding, plus repair work around Dog Kennel Wood. Path clearing (brambles etc) in Serpentine Woods.

Tuesday 14th: We are going to clear an area round the pond in DKW to plant wet-loving wild flowers Also build a newt habitat, as we think we have newts in the pond.

Tuesday 21st: Further work on our new wetland wild flower area, and the new coppice area, and improving the paths round DKW.

Tuesday 28th: Finish the new wetland area, weeding, or wall repair along the tram road, as people prefer.

We will observe social distancing rules and stay outside. Disinfectant and soap provided. Meet at DKW at 9.00 am for all activities.

Tuesday 2nd: Weeding coppice area in Noble’s Rest. Coronavirus social distancing rules will apply. Meet at 9.30 in Noble’s Rest. Morning only.

Tuesday 15th: General KCV meeting. We need to do gardening / weeding / repair work round Dog kennel Wood. We will observe social distaning rules and stay outside. Disinfectant and soap provided, plus chocolate biscuits! Meet at DKW at 9.00 am .
