Since 2018 KCV have been collecting tree seed for the Millennium Seed Bank, which was established by Kew Gardens in 2000. Kew supplied us with the equipment, including a hand-held GPS unit to record the exact sources of our seeds. We have collected seed from:

• Purging Buckthorn
• Guelder Rose
• Spindle
• Alder
• Bird Cherry
• Wild Cherry
• Alder Buckthorn
• Wild Privet
• Hazel
• Small-leaved Lime
• Barberry
• Dogwood
• Blackthorn
• Wych Elm

In 2025 the collecting switched from tree seeds to shrubs and smaller plants; we collected seed from:

• Western gorse
• Scotch broom
• Bilberry
• Common heather
• Dyer’s greenweed

Some of these have proved more challenging than others!
